Today is Rememberence Day and I will not forget,
This is my father who was a pilot in WW2, he gave his life at the age of 23 so that we could have the freedom we all have enjoyed. I was 6 months old when he went overseas so I never knew him. Today as I remember I think of him, however I really also think of all the mothers and fathers who lost thier children, and how aweful that was. I can't imagine, if I was to have my son go to war and never come back. WOW what a price we pay for freedom.
I also have a wonderful memory from my dad, as he did a photo album, yes can you believe it, what a wonderful legacy of him that he left behind, while I don't know many of the people it does tell alot about him that I probably wouldn't know if he hadn't done it. Afew years ago realizing what a treasure this was I journaled in it, so my children and grandchildren would know something of their ancester. I truely believe that we need to create photo albums, something that will live on after us, and digital just doesn't do it, as videos I took when my children where small I now have touble viewing. Anyway just a plug for scrapbooking and My Digital Studio, that allows you to take photos and easily put them into scrapbooks so your great grandchildren will know you as well. Here are a couple of pictures taken using the camera my dad has over his shoulder, can you believe I still have one like that I think it was my mother tho' because I am sure my dad had his with him. Here is one of the photo pages he did. My journalling.
I am sure this was a professional photo of one of the planes he flew. WOW can you imagine flying in this plane they had to wear oxygen face masks and thermal suits as it was freezing cold and when they got to a certain altitude they needed oxygen.
Another treasure my mother and grandma received from the Canadian Government was this cross, I am not sure of the name of it, however it is sterling silver and beautiful. I now have it and my daughter has her great grandma's and I do wear it with pride and sometimes tears, but it is beautiful. On the back of this cross is inscribed my fathers name and his Airforce #.
Anyway remember those boys, cause most of them were 18 to 25 years old, and also the ones that came back, they had to live with the memories, and people didn't talk in those days, they just had to get on with life. Lets not forget. Hugs Elaine
